We live in a hi-tech digital world, and technology is integral to our lives. In fact, we carry it with us wherever we go, and most of us couldn’t get on without it. We even have mobile broadband so that there’s not a moment that goes by that we’re not connected to the human web. So we take our technology quite seriously, but not all new technology is so sombre, and with that in mind, we present to you the five “funniest” mobile broadband gadgets we’ve encountered all year.
1. VoIP Phones
VoIP phones, such as the Panasonic’s wireless KX-WP1050, which comes with Skype services, will surely put a smile on your face. The advantage of a VoIP phone over a conventional cell phone is that it’s cheaper to own, at purchase time and during use, and calls connect as fast, are as reliable, and are cheaper or even free. It connects via your home network, or you can connect via a Wi-Fi hotspot on your laptop or tablet or at Internet café or similar spot.
2. Web Radio
What’s great about Web radio is it lets you listen to what you want, when you want, wherever you have Internet access. If you want fun, then listen to your favourite music or seasonal tunes. If you want funny, then choose any of the always-on stations that play a constant cycle of the best stand-up comedy and humour-related podcasts. Our favourite Web radio device is the ITC-IR1000B from Grace Radio. This gadget sets up in seconds, and it’s small enough to sit on a nightstand or for you to take with on the job.
3. Wi-Fi SD Cards
Few things are funnier than zany pictures of friends and family. These photos are memories that last a lifetime, and make you laugh every time you look at them. Such photos can also be a real chore because camera SD cards tend to fill up quick. Now, an all-new type of SD card has built-in Wi-Fi that lets it connect to any network within range. Once connected, you can use the PC to pull the photos from the device, or in the case of some cameras, you can push the photos onto the PC or a cloud.
4. Wi-Fi Photo Frame
Taking those photos might be the easy part. Now, you need a way to enjoy them, something more accessible than sitting around the camera or the PC. One of our favourite options for displaying digital photos is the eStarling WPF-388B digital photo frame from PF Digital. This frame automatically connects to your home network, and you can point it at multiple shared folders on the network. Once set up, the frame begins cycling through all of those funny photos in slideshow fashion.
5. Wireless Projector
That Wi-Fi digital photo frame has many customization options, but sometimes you need more control, and this is where a wireless projector, such as the NEC NP 905, is a wonderful alternative. With a projector like this, you can display your entire collection of funny photos right on the living room wall. And since its wireless, accessing the shared photo folders on your network is simple. The device even has USB keyboard support so that you can set up and configure new folders in seconds
