The Pentax Q incorporates a 1/2.3-inch backside-illuminated CMOS sensor which is commonly found in most point-and-shoot digital cameras. Other features include body-based sensor-shift image stabilization, can shoot in JPEG and RAW formats, and 1080p full high definition MPEG-4 videos at 30 frames per second.

The camera offers various creative options including automated exposure-bracketing HDR (high dynamic range), color filters, fish-eye and toy-camera effects, color-isolation and post-shot effects. The Pentax Q is scheduled to launch this fall at approximately US$800 with a 47mm/F1.9 prime kit lens. According to the company, four additional Q-mount lenses will be available at the same time – 27.5mm to 83mm zoom lens, a prime fish-eye lens, and two fixed focal-length “toy-camera” lenses for wide-angle and telephoto shots.
