Samsung unveils Spinpoint M8,its first 1TB internal a 2.5-inch internal hard disk drive for use in notebooks and other mobile PCs.

The company said that its Spinpoint M8 drive would combine a pair of 500GB platters to offer 1TB of storage on a standard 9.5mm notebook hard drive.
Samsung said the 550GB high density in each disk was achieved by utilizing what it calls advanced format technology (AFT), which raises the data storage density per unit area.
The 5400 RPM Spinpoint M8 will operate at SATA speeds of 3Gbit/s and will run with a reduced number of hardware components to help limit power consumption and improve speed on the drive.
Spinpoint M8 is currently in mass production and available worldwide with the 1TB drive at about $129.
